NETCOM ANNOUNCES PERSONAL EXECUTIVE SERVICE
Leading Internet Service Provider Decrees all Customers Will be Part of
Drive to End the VP Gap; Hopes to Convert Entire Customer Base by Year's
End
San Jose, California, April 1, 1996 -- NETCOM On-Line Communication
Services, Inc. (NASDAQ:NETC) today announced that it is making a
commitment to the goal of a Vice President's position for every
subscribing customer by the end of 1996.
Called Personal Executive, the program is designed to increase both
NETCOM's subscriber base, and to bring it in line with a 1:1 relationship
with executive staffing. Moving beyond the cautious addition of one or two
Vice Presidents per quarter, NETCOM will begin adding them wholesale by
the end of April. In a related move, Don Hutchison was named Senior
Executive Vice President of Vice Presidents.
"We expect to be naming fifteen to twenty new Vice Presidents per day
during the initial ramp-up," said Internet pioneer Hutchison, "and once
the program is in full swing, we will increase that fifteen to twenty
times over. It's an aggressive strategy, but we feel we can convert our
entire customer base over to executiveships by the end of the calendar
year. Many outsiders view NETCOM's customer base as nothing more than
bunch of java-drinking horn dogs -- Personal Executive will put an
end to that."
"This is no joke," said John Zeisler, Senior Vice President of Marketing,
"we feel that the added draw of being an executive will be what
gives NETCOM that extra edge against the competition. We we all sitting
in a meeting last week, discussing value-point pricing. And it hit me.
'value-point'...VP. Right then and there we knew what we had to do." When
queried regarding the size of senior staff meetings, Zeisler iterated,
"This is no joke."

"NETCOM has long been a pioneer in the Internet services market, and this
bold new Personal Executive program will help us to close the Vice
Presidential gap," exclaimed David Garrison, NETCOM Chairman and Chief
Executive Officer. "It's as though NETCOM has always been this three-legged
stool, only now we're adding a lot more legs. In fact, I myself will be
accepting a vice presidency as soon as an appropriate title can be
created. Maybe Vice Vice President of Vice Presidents."
The program has already begun aggressively, with the Company this morning
announcing the appointment of a Vice President of Parking, a Vice President
of Elevator Maintenance, a Vice President of Moving Operations to Horizon,
and a Vice President of Not Moving Operations to Horizon. There has been
talk of appointing a Vice President of Indecision, but an internal decision
is yet to be reached as to who is most appropriate for the position.
